Today’s Reading: Isaiah 46:3-13
Psalm 68:19 — Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears us up; God is our salvation.
God promises to bear us up in His arms. Your mother carried you in her womb before you were born. Perhaps your father carried you to bed after you fell asleep in the car or in his lap. Eventually, you got too big for your parents to carry, or you did not want to be carried because you could walk on your own. But you need God to carry you today.
Think about the paralyzed man in Mark 2 whose friends made a hole in the roof of a house so that he could be lowered down to Jesus for healing. The paralyzed man had to be carried to Jesus. Jesus forgave the paralyzed man’s sins and then healed his body.
I have a friend who is a doctor who treats children’s illnesses. Sometime a child needs to receive an injection and the child is afraid of the needle. The child’s mother or father often has to carry the child into the doctor’s office to receive the painful treatment that will give the child health.
We need the Holy Spirit to carry us to the cross. The cross is where we meet Jesus to experience our co-crucifixion and receive deliverance from self-preservation. Our flesh wants to avoid death, so we need God to carry us and assure us that everything will be much better even if dying to self hurts.
God is our salvation. He is our Savior who daily bears us up. God told His people that He had been carrying them from the womb and that He would carry them all the way to old age and the tomb. Your faithful heavenly Father wants you to rest in the security of His everlasting arms. Let Him lift you up and carry you through your day every day.
