Today’s Reading: Matthew 6:25-34
Matthew 6:25 — “For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life.”
God promises freedom from cares. In the parable of the sower and the four soils (Mark 4:3-8), Jesus mentions seed that falls among thorns. In Mark 4:19, Jesus says that the thorns represent the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things that choke the Word of God in our lives. Too often we care about the wrong things.
Peter wrote that we should cast all of our cares—our worries and anxieties—on God since He cares for us (1 Peter 5:7). If we simply humble ourselves under God’s mighty hand, God will protect us from our adversary, the devil, and God will take care of us.
Have you ever worried that you would not be able to pray? Have you ever felt anxiety that you would not be able to read your Bible or go to church? Have you ever panicked because you could not share the gospel with someone? Probably you have not.
We usually care more about what we are going to eat, what we will wear, or how we will afford to pay our bills than we care about spiritual things. We can’t miss a day of school or a day of work, but if we miss a day of church worshiping God, we think, “That’s okay.” The cares of this world are a snare that God wants to free us from.
Jesus said, “Do not be worried about your life.” Don’t let the cares of this world consume you and choke your spiritual life. Care about your spiritual needs and your spiritual life at least as much as the physical needs of your natural life. God cares about your physical and spiritual needs, and He can meet them both. Trust Him.

Devotional
“Don’t let the cares of this world consume you and choke your spiritual life. Care about your spiritual needs.”
“Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.”
1 Peter 5:7 NLT
I was being consumed and choked by my worries, was not able to make a decision.
Because of my worries, I was not able to come to the devotional desk.
Finally, I come to the devotion and realize that I should have done in the morning to think with God’s word.
God said, “Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.”
1 Peter 5:7 NLT
What a perfect word for today!
I am not worried anymore because…
