Philippians 4:9 — What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
Paul wanted the Philippians to follow his example. Would we have the confidence to ask others to follow our example? Do we set a good example for others to follow?
To be honest, there are parts of my life I would not want others to follow because I am not so Christ-like in those areas and I need to grow so much more in those areas. Perhaps you think this way too.
If we look at Philippians 4:1-8, we can see the example that Paul wanted people to see and follow. People loving one another in the church. People sharing the Gospel. People being joyful and considerate of one another. People who pray. People who are thankful. People who think spiritual thoughts that minister grace to the thinker and to others. Paul says that when we follow these examples, we will experience God’s peace.
Do I aspire to be someone who lives this way so that others have an example of faith to follow? Of course! The author of Hebrews said to follow the faith of those who speak the Word of God and live it (Hebrews 13:7). My hope is that as I study the Word of God and speak the Word of God, I will live the Word of God and set an example of faith for others to follow. God of peace, be with us as we follow You!
