Today’s Reading: Exodus 3:1-6, 10-14
Exodus 3:14 — God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Say this to the people of Israel: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”
God promises a new identity. When Moses asked God, “Who am I?” God answered, “I will be with you.” God said that His name is “I AM.” So, Moses’ identity changed from nobody to somebody, and that somebody was a man who I AM was with.
God, the ever-present, omnipresent One, became the most important part of who Moses was. This is true for us as believers.
Before we received Christ and were placed in Christ to live in Jesus, we had no true identity. We only knew ourselves according to the flesh (2 Corinthians 5:16), but that was a mistaken identity. We were all made in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1:27), so we cannot truly know ourselves apart from Him and what He says about us.
After we received Christ for salvation, we became new creations (2 Corinthians 5:17). The old, fallen identity in Adam passed away, and we became all new in the I AM. Now we can say, “I am a child of God. I am a new creation. I am God’s beloved. I am part of Christ’s body. I am seated above in heavenly places with Christ. I am more than a conqueror through Him who loves me.”
There are so many wonderful things that we are because of Who God is and because we live in Jesus. Our eternal identity is part of our eternal security in Christ. You can have confidence today because I AM has declared who you are.
