Able and Available

Today’s Reading: Psalm 46

Psalm 46:1 — God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

God promises to be able and available. Our God is able. Abraham’s faith did not waver because He believed that God is able to do whatever He promises (Romans 4:20-21). Genesis 18:14 asks the question, Is anything too hard for the Lord?” Luke 1:37 answers, “Nothing will be impossible with God.”

Our God is available. Jeremiah 33:3 says, “Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.” In Isaiah 65:24, God tells us, “Before they call I will answer; while they are yet speaking I will hear.”

God knows that we need Him even when we do not know we need Him. God is waiting for us to call to Him. He is available to us, and He has the ability to do exactly what is needed in every situation. He is “a very present help in trouble.” God is ever-present and always ready to be our Helper.

“Man is born to trouble” says Job 5:7. We do not have to go looking for trouble; trouble finds us. We need God all the time whether we are humble enough to admit that fact or not. Proud people refuse Christ’s grace for salvation because they think they can help themselves. “I believe in myself,” they say, and believe in their autonomy, that they have no need for God.

God opposes the proud, but gives greater grace to the humble according to James 4:6. Paul wrote that God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work (2 Corinthians 9:8). God is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think (Ephesians 3:20).

God’s grace is available to us to day to give us God’s ability to do God’s work! Let’s call to God now!
